The AVEM Bylaws state that the purpose and objectives of the Association are:

"To provide a vehicle for evaluation, analysis, and communication on matters of common interest to companies which produce vacuum equipment, and to engage in such activities as will promote better business relationships, more efficient operation and better service for producers of vacuum equipment and their customers."

AVEM operates by means of ongoing committees whose members are leaders in the vacuum equipment industry. These committees initiate and conduct programs in education, business management, public relations and marketing services through seminars and surveys.

A major AVEM activity is the creation of quarterly Statistical Reports which tracks sales of equipment, components and supplies in a number of market categories. This information allows individual companies to evaluate their position in the industry and provides aid in new product development and in the determination of market strategy.

Another major AVEM activity is the promotion of the products and services of members through the Directory of Members and the Index of Products and Services for the Vacuum Industry. These publications are valuable resources to those individuals who use vacuum equipment or are responsible for selecting equipment suppliers.
