About the Meeting

  • Have you ever had a customer who was willing to pay cash for a high-value order rather than use a standard method of payment, which generally involves a letter of credit?

  • Have you had a customer willing to pay well in excess of market value for a product?

  • Have you had a purchaser who was reluctant to provide information on the end-use or end-user, or the product they are ordering?

These scenarios are a few of the possible indicators of illegal exports or diversions.

U.S. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) solicits the assistance of private industry to provide information relating to suspicious acquisitions of high technology and munitions items, or services relating to those items. In many instances, companies are required by law to provide information on exports to the U.S. government.

Our keynote speaker is Special Agent Jeremy Arellano.  He has been employed as a special agent with the U.S. Government for seven years. Special Agent Arellano is assigned to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of the Resident Agent in Charge, Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he conducts counter-proliferation investigations. Prior to his employment with HSI, Special Agent Arellano was employed by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and served in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.  Prior to his law enforcement career, Special Agent Arellano was an active duty U.S. Marine.

Learn how to keep America safe and how to keep your company from participating in illegal business ventures by attending the Association of Vacuum Equipment Manufacturers (AVEM) Annual Business Meeting, Oct. 20, 2010, 7:00-9:30 a.m., at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The meeting is being held in conjunction with AVS and will conclude prior to the opening of the exhibits. In addition to the presentation, there will be a networking breakfast for vacuum equipment manufacturing executives and a short business meeting.
