Rocky Brook Associates, Inc. (RBA) was founded in 1973 by the Sawyer family as a distributor of copper and copper based alloys, stainless steel, precious and clad precious metals. The latter part of the 1970's brought about many changes, including the beginnings of in-house production equipment. Today our production facilities include full CAD/CAM design, plate sawing, multiple CNC machining centers – capable of 100” lengths – centerless grinding and deep hole drilling. RBA's commitment to the vacuum industry grew in 2000 with the addition of a new CNC vertical machining center adding to our capability and capacity for producing sputtering targets and backing plates up to 100" long in a single set-up.

Products, Services and Markets

We specialize in producing copper (99.995% + pure) sputtering targets. These are machined on all critical sides to eliminate surface microporosity and fluocarbon imbedment.

Targets are produced in a wide variety of shapes and sizes including round, square, rectangle, inset, delta and monolithic (one piece) target/backing plate designs. We do offer other materials as well including nickel, aluminum, silver and zinc—as long as 100"!

RBA manufactures copper backing plates for many systems including MRC, Materials Science, Sierra Applied Sciences, US, Inc.'s Mighty Mak, CPA, Perkin-Elmer, and Leybold. We also produce custom backing plates—as long as 100"!

RBA also invites inquiries for contract machining of customer supplied materials. These materials can be virtually anything from 99.999 aluminum to zirconium.

99.995% + copper sputtering targets and backing plates, free of surface microporosity and fluocarbons, are our hallmark. While annually processing in excess of 140 tons of copper, we treat all orders, large or small, with the same attention to detail that has made RBA America's leading producer of cladding plates and rods for more than 25 years! This has paved the way for RBA to become a fast growing and highly competitive supplier of sputtering targets and backing plates.
